NCT03142191 Study Connect
Diffusion Capacity is another type of pulmonary function test. It is a measure of the way in which gas exchanges across your lungs. It takes longer to perform this test than spirometry. As a result, most doctors will only perform this test twice or three times a year. The results are reported as percent predicted.

Once air from the lungs crosses the alveolar-capillary membrane, it is picked up by red blood cells and transported to the tissues of the body. Diffusing capacity is a measure of how well oxygen and carbon dioxide are transferred (diffused) between the lungs and the blood, and can be a useful test in the diagnosis and to monitor treatment of lung diseases. Diffusion Capacity. Diffusion capacity assesses how well a tracer gas in inspired air can cross from the air into the blood.

The most predictive pulmonary function test is the diffusion capacity. Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) may include a diffusing capacity (DLCO) test. This test measures how well gases like oxygen move from your lungs into your blood.
Exercise-induced pulmonary edema in heart failure.
Pulmonary Function Testing & Interpretation is a comprehensive guide to lung function tests, such as spirometry, lung volume and diffusing capacity.
Your doctor will may perform one or more other pulmonary function tests to diagnose and monitor your respiratory disease, disorder or condition. Other pulmonary function tests include:
Diffusing capacity of the lung (D L) (also known as Transfer factor is another expression for the formerly used diffusing capacity.) measures the transfer of gas from air in the lung, to the red blood cells in lung blood vessels. This test is used to estimate the transfer of oxygen from the alveoli in your lungs to your bloodstream.

"had pulmonary function test done with impression "mild restrictive defect" and "reduced diffusion".what could these mean?hyperreact.
We measured the pulmonary diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide (Deo) by the single-breath method, arterialized capillary blood gas, and spirometry in a group of 32 healthy subjects (24 men, eight women) at an altitude of 2,260 m and after ascent to 4, 700 m. 2021-02-09
Because diffusion impairment has been described by all investigators studying pulmonary function in the setting of HIV (1– 8) and because this finding appears to occur with increased frequency at later stages of infection (1, 4), it is possible that this abnormality may be an important physiologic manifestation of HIV-related immune dysfunction on respiratory structure and function. Rationale: Data on the change in diffusion capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) over time are limited. We aimed to examine change in DLCO (ΔDLCO) over a 9-year period and its predictors.

Diffusion Capacity Diffusion capacity assesses how well a tracer gas in inspired air can cross from the air into the blood. The test measures the absorption of a low concentration of carbon monoxide in inhaled air by hemoglobin in red blood cells that circulate through pulmonary capillaries. Lung diffusion capacity is a type of pulmonary or lung function test.
Diffusion capacity testing (DLCO) is best used to pinpoint the type of respiratory disease.
