The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York and Bard College presented on June 27-28, 2011 a special event celebrating the 75th birthday of Norman Manea, Francis Flournoy Professor in European Studies and Culture and Writer in Residence at Bard College, one of the most remarkable writers of our time.
Norman Manea is Professor Emeritus of European Studies and Culture and Writer in Residence at Bard College. Norman Manea is a Romanian writer, now living in the United States, and teaching at Bard College. He was born in the Romanian province of Bukovina in 1936, and when he was five years old, he and his family were deported to a concentration camp in Transnistria, a part of Ukraine that the Nazis handed over to Romania during the Second World War.
